Raúl Castro
Associate Professor
Raúl has more than 20 years of experience in the cave mining industry, in engineering and applied research areas. Raúl is an Associate Professor at the University of Chile, specializing in Mining Engineering, teaching courses in Geomechanics, Materials Handling, Ventilation, and Underground Mine Design. Recognized for a distinguished career in mine planning and the development of design tools applied to mining engineering. Raúl’s organizational and technical skills have been crucial to developing valuable projects for Codelco DET and PMCHS, Newcrest Mining Cadia and Wafi-Golpu, Rio Tinto and Agnico Eagle-Goldex. He was Co-Chairman of both the Eighth Mass Mining Conference MassMin 2020 and UMining 2024.
Scott Dunbar
Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC)
He has worked in consulting engineering, primarily on geotechnical and water resources projects across North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He joined the Department of Mining Engineering at UBC in 1997, where he taught courses in engineering economics, professional ethics, mine waste management, and simulation. His research focuses on two main areas: advanced methods of mineral resource extraction—particularly the application of biotechnology to the separation of economically valuable minerals—and the development of new business models and strategies for the mineral resources industry.
Allan Moss
President Sonal Mining Technology Inc.
Currently President Sonal Mining Technology, an owner operated company specializing in technical aspects of underground bulk mining operations and the application of technology to underground mining. In addition, Allan is a director of Entre Resources and an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, teaching the practice of caving and chairing ICaRN, UBC’s caving research initiative. Over 45 years of experience in underground mining and 25 years in caving. Allan is currently providing independent technical advice on caving and bulk mining.
